Bengaluru: In Bengaluru, a resident expressed his dismay after discovering a live snail in a salad he ordered from Leon's Grill, a local restaurant chain. Dhaval Singh, a techie, shared his unpleasant experience on social media, posting a video on Twitter (now known as X) and Reddit, urging others to be cautious. The salad, delivered via Swiggy, also included an incorrect drink order. Despite initially offering only a partial refund, Swiggy eventually refunded the full order amount to Singh.
In a similar incident, a Bengaluru woman named Harshitha found a cockroach in her chicken fried rice ordered from the restaurant "Tapri by the Corner" on Zomato. She shared her disgust on X, prompting a response from Zomato, which requested her contact details for a swift resolution.
These incidents add to a growing concern about food safety in online food delivery platforms. Recently, Zomato faced scrutiny for delivering a food item containing an insect in another case. In Hyderabad, a man discovered a lizard in his biryani from an online delivery restaurant, raising concerns about the lack of care in food preparation. The incidents highlight the need for increased vigilance and hygiene standards in the food delivery industry.
